How to Tell Fake CHI Flat Iron
Today there are hundreds of fake Chi irons out there, a growing wave of counterfeits has driven down prices and created a dilemma for Farouk Systems. So you need to be concerned is if the model of your chi flat iron is authentic.
If the CHI iron is bought through a professional salon or other authorized distributor, give them a
call or contact Farouk directly ( (800) 237-9175). They would be able to give you
a definitive answer. If not, try these alternative methods.
Handle The
real chi has all of the electrical information embed in the handle, no stickers and stamped GLOBAL BEAUTY NETWORK, INC. in
silver on the handle. On the inside of the
handle it should say: Farouk Systems, Inc, and below that should be a
certification number (for example, Certified to: CSA-C222). Although
newer models are 20-25 watts, older CHIs were 35 watts.
Trademark if your chi iron has a R next to the word CHI then it is fake. The real one has the "CHI tm" which mean trademark. But on the original model, there is an R, not TM, after CHI.
Ceramic plates On authentic CHI irons, the ceramic should not chip or wear off.
Cheap knockoffs are made with aluminum plates coated with ceramic.
Also, the ceramic plates should "float". Press down on the plate and
see if it moves. If the plate moves, or "floats", then you have the
real deal.
Manual If you have
the owner's manual, it should say GF-1001 on the cover, with contact
info for Farouk Systems at the bottom. The manual should be printed in
English and should contain a one-year warranty.
Box On the back of the CHI box it should say: Manufactured for Farouk
Systems, Inc. Houston TX 77090. Weight
Fake one is just lighter in weight. Plus about 60% cheaper.
Pronged cord
The fake ones don't have the 3 pronged cord. But original model has 2 prongs
on the plug.
Older authentic model An
older model could be made in China, Korea or USA, 2 prongs,
has the electrical (35w) embedded in the handle, the silver LED printed
next to the light, and a manual that has Farouk's address and number
from Texas and the one year warranty listed.
Earlier 2009, Farouk founder Farouk Shami issued a press release stating that he will be closing all overseas factories in an
attempt to counterfeiting. If you plan to buy a CHI iron in the
future, make sure it was made in the USA.

I bought a chi flat iron from chisstore.com online. Before buying it I tried to get all the information from the live chat rep who confirmed that that the chi was genuine, manufactured in the USA and will be posted to me from USA. And also added that Farouk System warranty it for 2 years for repair and replacement. Well as soon as i made the payment online a yeepee account popped up from China. I went on live chat again and wanted to confirm that this is a local product. Which the rep confirmed. I was sent the chi from China through DHL service. It was a fake one. Upon receiving the product, since it has all the paper work inside to register the product I called Farouk System here in Houston to do that, guess what they told me it is a fake one. They do have the return policy online which when I contacted with the email provided and asked for clarification and that I am going to return that product, no hear from them at all. I got hooked. BEWARE customers. Better buy at a professional salon don't deal with online cheaters.
